 | According to the press-service of the Central administrative board of the Ministry of Emergency Measures of Russia in the Nizhniy Novgorod Region. The water level of the Volga river and the Oka river is likely to rise above its critical 72 meters mark owing to the double amount of precipitation. In this connection antiflood measures are being taken actively. Similar measures are being taken at “Korund”.
Because the situation is very serious, special commission has been set up at the factory which has been looking into the questions of anti-flood measures. In particular, water-fence and water-purifying constructions audit has taken place, pumps have been repaired and pontoons have been prepared. In order to prevent chemical substances from contaminating local water bodies (chemicals can get into the water bodies with melting snow), round the clock monitoring of emergency teams has been introduced at hydrotechnical constructions right from the first motion ofice till the moment when the water will begin sinking.
In comparison with last year’s floods the floods have been developing more slowly owing to unsettled weather and changeable temperatures. According to weather forecasters from Nizhniy Novgorod the ice is likely to move at the beginning of April.
